Nevermore Journal Notebook

Nevermore Journal Notebook

I wanted to share one of my latest Halloween journals that I made recently.  This is an altered HALF composition notebook.  I take the full size notebooks down to my local printer, Minute Print It and I have them chop a stack of composition notebooks in half.  It doesn’t take them very long, just a couple of minutes.  Then I take them home and make them pretty… or in this case, spooky. 🙂

This is a very easy project.  Just cover the front and back covers inside and out in whatever material you prefer.  I used cardstock on this one.  (I have used fabric.  I will have to post one of those next time.)  Just cut the cardstock down to fit your size of notebook and adhere.  I use one of 2 adhesives… YES paste, which is a book binding glue that is slow to dry so you have time to work with it when placing paper pieces.  Or, Quick Dry Paper Glue which dries quickly and doesn’t wrinkle your paper.

I always dye the edges of the covers with coordinating Walnut Ink.  It makes them look nice and neat and gives them a “finished” look.  You can then embellish as you like.  I used ribbon on this one and stamped the words “Nevermore” near the crows.

This process is easy.  Just about anyone can do it.  But is does take a bit of time.  If you’d rather not make one yourself you can always visit my Etsy store to purchase it completed.  Also, if you would like a particular design just email or convo me and I would be happy to make a special one just for you.

Retro Stacking Coffee Mugs

One of my latest finds have been these vintage stacking coffee mugs.  These were in every kitchen when I was a kid.  They are ceramic.  Each set’s glazing is so unique.  In fact, no two are glazed exactly the same.  They are one of a kind art. 🙂  I don’t know which pattern is my favorite.  I’d appreciate it if someone could share the history of when and how these were made.  I’d love to know the process.  The bottoms are all marked “Japan”.  They are all listed in my Etsy store if you’d like them for your collection. 🙂

Witchy Woman…

Since this is the week before Halloween, I am going to have a week of Halloween projects.  I will kick the week off with this witchy women.  I love this witch from the Stampinbella line of stamps.  I made her in mind for a submition into a marker challenge from 4 Crafty Chicks and a spooky challenge at Divas by Design.  Both are very creative blogs that hosts weekly challenges.  This week Crafty Chicks was devoted to coloring.  I think my witch is just fabulous!  I used DCWV cardstocks and Copic markers for coloring.  I hi-lited her dress in several areas with Stickles.  The photo doesn’t really pick up her sparkle.  The sentiment “Best Witches!” is from Stampin’ Up!  I plan on sending this card to my new friend Emily S.  She was with me when I was coloring my witch.
